Born in Barcelona on July 14th, 1978, Roger Grimau Gragera is an explosive guard 196 cm tall, who can cover also the point-guard and small forward positions, thanks to his great ability in penetration, fastbreak as well in the long-distance shooting, and for sure he can give the best defensively on each position on the perimeter. He is a natural born leader with a great mental attitude, always ready to sacrifice for the team and to be the best example for his teammates. He comes from a basketball family, his father played for Barça and his brothers Sergi and Jordi are also professional players who learned their trade with FC Barcelona. He was the last one of the family to sign for the blaugrana colors, in the summer of 2003, but then collected records and trophies as anyone else, winning 13 trophies along 8 seasons, 10 as Captain of the team. With the jersey of the National Team of Spain, he lived probably his finest moment when he won the gold medal in the 2001 Mediterranean Games in Tunisia with Spain B. He also won the silver medal with the senior Spain squad in the European Championship in Sweden 2003. Out of the court, Roger and his wife Leti have two sons.

His growing up came up through the youth teams of JAC Sants, CB Hospitalet and Grup Barna, and established himself with Sant Josep de Badalona, at that time linked with Club Joventut. After two seasons, in one of which he was the top scorer of the category, playing 25 games in 1998/99 for the first team, Joventut Pintures Bruguer de Badalona. That year he won the first title of his career, the Catalan League, at the age of 20. Then he wanted a bigger challenge and in 1999/00 signed for Caprabo Lleida. In his first season in the LEB, 1999/00, Roger played 30 games averaging 16.6 points and 52.5% of 2-point shots. Then, in 2000/2001 he established himself and took lead the club to achieve the ACB averaging 15.9 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.7 steals and 2.5 assists per game. In their first season in the ACB both Grimau and the team performed well above expectations. Far from languishing in the bottom zone, Caprabo Lleida classified for the playoffs, losing in the quarterfinals to FC Barcelona. Grimau averaged 14.4 points in the 34 games of the regular phase and more than 10 in the four games of the playoffs. Lleida qualified for Europe (ULEB Cup) for the first time in the history of the club. Roger and Caprabo Lleida were the surprise packages of the season. The 2002/2003 was the last season for Roger in Lleida. He led the team to the Catalan League trophy at the beginning of the season and was voted MVP. That year he averaged 14.3 points per game and increased his percentage of 2-point shots to 55%. His performances attracted admirers from around the ACB and he finally joined FC Barcelona. In his first season with Barça, 2003/2004, Roger Grimau won the league title despite missing half the season due to a serious foot injury. He played 28 games, averaging 8.5 points and 3.6 rebounds. He made his Euroleague debut and played 9 games, averaging 6.7 points and 2.1 rebounds but the team failed to repeat their title success of the previous season. In 2004/2005, Grimau helped the team to win the Catalan League, beating former club Caprabo Lleida in the final and getting revenge for the previous season. With the rest of his Barça teammates he won the newly established ACB Super Cup. Grimau averaged 4.8 points in the regular season (but the team was eliminated in the playoffs by Estudiantes), and 5.2 in the Euroleague, where FC Barcelona were eliminated in the quarterfinals. Grimau headed the ranking in 2-point shots and buried 20 shots from 28 in the eleven games of the regular season. He began the 2005/2006 season late due to an elbow injury he picked up in the semi-final of the Catalan League against Manresa. On recovering, Grimau played 32 games, averaged 3.8 points and maintained his percentage in 2-point shots (55%). In the Euroleague he played in 18 games and averaged 4.2 points. Barça reached the Final Four but were eliminated in the semi-final by CSKA. In the following season, Grimau averaged 13 minutes in the regular phase, nearly 5 points and captured 2 rebounds per game while in the Euroleague he played an average of 12.4 minutes, scoring 4.2 points, capturing 2 rebounds and giving 1 assist.

In 2007/2008, with the departure of Juan Carlos Navarro to the NBA, Roger took on a more prominent role. Appointed team Captain, he played more minutes and improved his stats. In the ACB he averaged 20 minutes per game in the regular phase, 10.2 points, 3 rebounds and almost 2 assists, with a valuation of 9.5 points. He also enjoyed more time on court in the Euro league: 21 minutes, 10 points, 3.6 rebounds, 1.7 assists and a valuation of 10. And one season later, in 2008/2009, he achieved his dream of lifting the ACB title as Captain. He came off the bench in the nine games of the playoffs and helped swing the balance in the favour of Barça. He achieved percentages of 52% (2-point shots) and 38% (3-point shots) in line with his stats in the regular phase but made an even bigger contribution as playmaker. In the Euroleague, the team also benefited from the efficiency and work rate of Grimau. He averaged 6.3 points, 2.4 rebounds but failed to reach the final despite participating in the Berlin Final Four. Taking third place was some consolation, especially as Barça had never won the game for 3°-4° place. The 2009/2010 season was simply sensational for Roger Grimau and FC Barcelona, winning 4 titles out of 5: Catalan League, ACB Super Cup, Copa del Rey and most of all Euroleague! Just at the end, the team was stopped in the ACB Finals by Tau Vitoria with great disappointment, but without deleting all the team had won until that moment. Grimau was always present, and his best game came against DKV Joventut in Badalona, when he received a 17 point valuation (13 points in 14 minutes played). In the Euroleague he was MVP of a fantastic game against Panathinaikos with 17 points and 24 of valuation, including 2 blocks. Finally, last season 2010/2011 Roger Grimau and FC Barcelona won again: Catalan League, ACB Supercup, ACB Copa del Rey, and finally - after suffering the elimination in the Euroleague playoffs quarterfinals by the future champions of Panathinaikos - the ACB League title, to close a sensational season and a unrepeatable path of eight years lived together.

Just one day after the goodbye and thanksgiving announcement made by the Club, Roger Grimau signed a two years contract with Bizkaia Bilbao Basket, who just reached the ACB Finals - stopped by him and Barça - and qualified to the next Euroleague. The black-and-white Club strongly wanted him as the perfect leader of the team, and he is the right one to make the "Efecto Miribilla" burn as never before inside the Bilbao Arena. In the 2011/2012 Roger was one of leader of a new and young group, giving his best effort made of example and attitude, and the results were very important not only in the ACB - where Bilbao arrived until the Playoffs Quarterfinals, stopped by Caja Laboral - but most of all in the Euroleague, where at its first partecipation ever Bilbao conquered a double and historical qualification to the Top 16 and to the Playoffs Quarterfinals, writing a new exciting chapter of the club history. Roger Grimau was one of the protagonists of all of it, as well as he is in the 2012/2013 with Bilbao competing again at the top of the ACB and running the new adventure of the Eurocup where has already reached the qualification to the Last 16.
