The new head coach of Trefl Sopot, Zan Tabak, was introduced to the Polish media and team fans yesterday with the official press conference of presentation. So, it was the occasion for him to say the first words in his new role, talking about himself but most of all about his basketball philosophy and the future to build together.
ZAN TABAK - "Before coming to Poland, I was already asking about the Tricity area (including Gdanks, Gdynia and Sopot) where we are right now, and everybody told me this is one of the most beautiful parties of Poland: it's a touristic area, very similar to the Croatian coast area where I come from. My experience with international clubs is both as a player and assistant coach. In the first case I played in all kinds of international events, while in the second case both in Real Madrid and Sevilla I participated to the actual EuroCup. Concerning EuroCup, this year we will try to pass the first round, but it will be also depending by what kind of teams there will be in our group, and it will be very difficult because we have one of the lowest budget of all the competition. As far as in the Polish League, Trefl Sopot is always trying to go highest possible, but again we have to see what kind of team we will have and what kind of teams we will have to front before talking about reaching the Semifinals, the Finals or winning the league. We need to see what kind of team we will gonna have comparing to the other teams to be able to say something like that. Koszarek is one of the best Polish player, I think definitely the best Polish point-guard. He was a very important part of this team, and it will be really nice to have him back here playing with us, because he will make the season much more easier for the team and for myself. My philosophy is to give opportunities to young guys, but not just for giving it: the young guys are supposed to earn their own opportunity, when they do it showing during practice that they can play, they get the chance also in the game. Also, they need to understand that they are coming for the first time in the game to score 20 points, but to play hard defense and make the dirty work, and after that they can add the offensive part. I was studying the team before signing, last team they played really good basketball and I think they were one the most surprising team of the Polish League, but like they told me, the team management wanted to change the direction, building a different style of basketball and a new team. That's why I am here about".
